Storying the Archive contains images and excerpts of items held in the Fryer Library collection and used with permission. Copyright attributions are in the order the items appear in the book. Some valuable works held in Fryer Library could be regarded as ‘orphan works’: still protected by copyright, but the copyright holder is unknown or unlocatable.
Orphan works
Staff of the Fryer Library may be required to investigate the copyright status of manuscript material held in the Fryer Library. In these cases they will make and document genuine search attempts to find the rightsholder/s whose permission is required for publication purposes. Any search-related documents/correspondence will be saved in the University of Queensland’s Records Management system. Any orphan works rightsholder who may later come forward can request access to these records by contacting the Fryer Library.
