Opening hours

24/7 study spaces
We offer 24/7 study spaces across our campuses, accessible to students after hours with your student ID card. Simply tap the card to the reader beside the door for entry. Always carry your student ID card when using the spaces after hours as Security patrol regularly patrol and may ask you for your ID card. The 24/7 spaces are:
St Lucia
- Biological Sciences Library
- Central Library
- Duhig Tower (levels 1, 2, 4 and 5)
- Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Library (levels 2 and 3)
- Law Library (Walter Harrison Library).
Herston campus
- Herston Health Science Library training room – proximity card access required. (After-hours access is via the corridor between the library entrance and the UQ Health Sciences building.)
Gatton campus
- JK Murray Library – levels 1 and 2.
Booking our spaces
Some of our spaces require bookings through the UQ Book It system using your student log-in.
You can reserve group and individual study rooms, as well as rooms with assistive technology or green screens.

Study space availability
If you are planning to visit our spaces in person, check the real-time space availability at each location before you go to avoid arriving when there is no space!
Computers
We provide free access to computers running Microsoft Windows at workstations across our campuses.
Please note that:
- Computers don’t need to be booked.
- If you are not using the library computer or device dock, please pick another space and allow another student to use the facilities.
- You should ensure that you save your work to a USB or cloud storage, as computers automatically log out after 15 minutes of inactivity and files saved on computers are deleted daily.

Accessibility
We have a various spaces and equipment to support accessibility. These include:
- Assistive Technology Rooms
- height adjustable desks
- assistive technology e.g. Dragon control and dictation software, screen reader software
- lockers
- accessible entries and lifts.

Library lockers
Our lockers for postgraduate students and students with disabilities are available on a semester basis (no cost) at these locations:
- St Lucia Campus:
- Central Library (Levels 1, 3 & 4)
- Biological Sciences Library (Level 4)
- Duhig Tower (Level 4)
- Gatton Campus:
- JK Murray Library (Lower Level)
Applying for lockers
For Semester 1 and 2 lockers at St Lucia, lockers are allocated through a lottery system. Applications open at the beginning of each semester and are advertised on our website.
For Gatton or Summer Semester lockers at St Lucia, applications are handled on a first-come, first-served basis at the respective AskUS service points.

Food and drinks
You may eat cold food and have drinks with lids in most of our spaces. Hot food is only permitted in our kitchens or outside libraries to minimise food smells in study areas.
Library kitchens
Some of our locations offer kitchen facilities with a fridge, microwave, and hot and cold water, which are regularly cleaned. Please follow signage in these areas to clean up after use and avoid leaving food in fridges overnight. Kitchens are found at:

- Biological Sciences Library
- UQ Gatton Library.

Looking after your belongings
To keep your items safe, always take them with you when leaving the library or taking a break.
Lost Property
If you lose or find an item, visit an AskUs service point or report it to UQ Security (outside office hours). Items found in our spaces are regularly sent to UQ Property and Facilities.
UQ Maps and SafeZone
Find our different spaces and navigate your way around campus with UQ Maps. You can search by building name, number or facilities e.g. parking, computers for each of our campuses. You can also download the UQ Maps mobile app.
SafeZone app
This app is an easy-to-use, location-based application for mobile devices that connects you directly with our security officers or emergency services during any type of first aid or emergency situation on one of our campuses and sites, providing you have mobile phone or wifi coverage.
