Add videos

The Pressbooks platform has limited storage available. It is recommended that videos are hosted on external platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, or Kaltura) and embedded.

Embedding video

You can embed a video simply by adding the URL in the Visual editor. Also, include a link to the video above or below the embed.

Videos in YouTube will usually include a transcript to make them accessible. Add a transcript to the chapter if one is not available with the video.

Example of an embedded video

How Haben Girma Became Harvard Law School’s First Deafblind Grad (YouTube, 6m39s) – this video introduces Haben Girma, who was born without hearing or vision and advocates for equal accessibility for people with disability.

The Pressbooks platform has a file upload limit of 10MB. Short videos can be uploaded to the Media area. In the Visual Editor:

  1. Select Add media
  2. Choose Upload files
  3. Attach or Drag and drop your video file.

Alternatively, select Media from the side menu and follow the same steps.

Fill out the description, including the Alt text, caption, and description. When adding the title, include the file type and size, e.g. Movie Title (MOV, 910 KB).

Under Attachment Display Settings, choose embed media player and Insert into Chapter.
