1 What is artificial intelligence?

Artificial Intelligence is best thought about as computers behaving intelligently to solve a problem or complete tasks.

2 Types of AI

  • There are three different types of AI. Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI).
  • Society is currently using ANI in everyday life through technology such as personal assistants on phones.

3 AI – exciting for some, scary for others

  • With the rise of artificial intelligence in everyday life it has been met with various levels of emotion.
  • Uses of AI such as self-driving cars, fake news and employment concerns being at the forefront.

4 Using AI tools in your study

  • You can use AI tools to help with studies but there are risks that you must consider.
  • Information generated by AI tools should be checked with credible sources.
  • It is important to acknowledge your use of generative AI tools and to check that you are permitted to use them.

5 Generative AI tools and task examples

  • Using effective prompts to get useful responses from generative AI.
  • Examples of tasks generative AI tools can help you with.
  • Examples of generative AI tools for text and image generation.

6 AI research and study at UQ and other AI courses

  • UQ is heavily involved in AI research and experimentation.
  • There are various events, projects and papers being developed that students can get involved in
  • There are several courses at UQ that students can enrol in to learn more about AI.
