18 PHRM4062 and PHRM4072 QUM Pharmacy Practice Placement

Purpose and Overview
PHRM4062 and PHRM4072 placements are designed to provide students with structured, practice-based learning experiences that consolidate and apply their developing clinical and professional pharmacy knowledge in real-world settings. Through supervised participation in patient care and pharmacy services, students develop core competencies in safe and effective practice, communication, and professional judgement. The placements also support reflective practice and encourage students to critically evaluate and integrate evidence-based care, with PHRM4072 additionally focusing on assessing gaps between current and best practice in relation to specific patient populations and models of care.
Placement Dates
The placement runs for six consecutive weeks (four days per week), beginning two weeks prior to the start of academic Week 1 in each semester.
Placements may be split between two pharmacies; however, there must be a clear educational rationale for how this arrangement will enhance learning.
During the Placement
- Attend their placement on a full-time basis (4 days/week), over the 6 consecutive weeks
- Submit a total of 6 SEAL Reflective Learning Tasks (4 for PHRM4062) according to the submission dates outlined in the Course Profile.
- Reflect on placement experiences in a Career Development Workshop.
- Actively seek out appropriate opportunities to gain feedback from their Preceptor.
- PHRM4072 students complete the Optimising Socially Accountable and Holistic Care (Work Based Task) where they will collect anecdotal evidence and contemporary evidence to produce and submit a written report on the gap between current and best practice in a particular patient demographic.
Note: Placement attendance days are determined at the discretion of the placement supervisor. Students should contact their supervisor at least four weeks prior to the placement commencement date to discuss scheduling.
